MCC Top NAPLAN performer
The Herald Sun newspaper ran a story recently on the top-performing schools in the Mildura region based on 2022 NAPLAN test results. The Sunraysia Daily also later picked up on the story. Mildura Christian College was acknowledged as the top-performing primary school and one of the top-performing secondary schools. It's always nice when the achievements of our students are recognised and we celebrate the great results achieved by our students in last year's tests.
Of course, it must also be acknowledged that the results of a relatively small number of students may not accurately reflect the whole school's performance. In other years, our small size may well work against us and produce an unfavourable statistic when just one or two students struggle with the tests. Still, to achieve a high result - the best result of all schools in our region, our students who sat the tests had to have performed really well and that is worth celebrating.
It's also worth remembering that the NAPLAN tests are only a snapshot of an important but fairly narrow aspect of a student's learning. They can't measure other very important growth areas such as character, creativity, curiosity, resilience, and grit. So, we read last year's results and those to come with both pride and caution. But when we do get a nice mention in the paper and we're called the region's top-performing school, that's pretty cool, so we'll take it.
