Gimmel Excursion

Written by Mr Joel Thomas

In week 6, the Gimmel students went on an excursion to the Wentworth Military Collection.

During the excursion, students were treated to the world-class “Marching Matilda Experience”, a self-guided tour that sheds light on Australia’s involvement in world conflicts, from the Boer War, all the way through to more recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The students also got to take part in a junior code-breaker activity, finding clues and deciphering morse code to learn more about the Bombing of Darwin and the Invasion at Normandy.

We had a fantastic time at the Wentworth Military Collection, followed by a picnic lunch at Wentworth junction park.

While at the Military Collection, a Vietnam veteran stopped by to have a look. While the man enjoyed the collection, he was most impressed by the students from Mildura Christian College!

He made a point of telling the caretakers how good it was that young people were so respectful of those who risked and gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Similarly, the staff at the Collection were amazed at the behaviour and participation of our grade 5-6 students.

We hope you enjoy the photos captured by our class photographer, Mayah Schultink.
