Acacia Learning Place

Upper Primary Years

Dear Endeavour Hills Specialist School community members,

Thank you for a fantastic return to school in Term 2!

This term in going to be short with only nine weeks in total and four of those weeks are only four days long for students. That's only 41 days to get the most out of Term 2 together!

Teaching staff in Acacia place have been busy planning an exciting term with students focused on exploring Zoo Animals.

Throughout Term 2 students in Acacia Place will be investigating animals they might find at the zoo. We will learn about a range of Australian and World Animals by focusing on a different animal each week. By the end of term students will help select an animal of their choice to investigate together with their class.

We will be learning about these animals’ appearance, habitat, and diet by asking the following questions:

Appearance: What does this animal look like?

Habitat: Where do they live in the wild?

Diet: What do they eat?

In English, we will continue to work on letter identification, formation, and phonemic awareness.  We will develop our understanding of how texts convey meaning as we explore a range of fiction and nonfiction texts. In connection with our Term Theme, students will explore information books and their features to help learn about different Zoo Animals.

In Math, we will continue to develop their counting and place value knowledge. Students will practice counting forwards and backwards, reading and writing numbers and comparing numbers. We will also explore common two-dimensional and three dimensional shapes by comparing models to their real world counterparts. We will focus on developing our language to identify and describe shapes.

In Personal and Social Capabilities, we will explore and respond to questions about themselves and be supported to describe themselves and the things they like and dislike. Students will be supported to investigate a range of common emotions along with how they can seek help when faced with challenging situations.

Kind regards,

The Acacia Place Learning Team!
