Undokai

On the 8th of March 2023 Huntingdale Primary School held an event known as Undoukai. At 5pm the picnic began, and the actual event started from 6pm ~ 7:30pm. At the very start the grade 6 sang a cheering song to encourage the red and white team. After the song the participants took part in a warm up called Radio Taiso.

One of the activities was a giant skipping rope, held by two teachers on either side of the rope, with five to six children in the middle jumping. Pankui was also an activity where students had to run under a rope with hanging biscuits and grab them with their teeth.

Another activity was the three-legged race. In this game you had to be partners and try to find a strategy to go and back to your starting possession.

Tug - of - war was a very interesting activity. A group of red and white students stood at either end and pulled a giant rope until the middle of the rope was in either team's territory. The white team won so badly that the red team needed year 7 to help the red team. For the preps, ones, and second grade they participated in Tamaire. This is an activity where you throw red or white sacks, depending on the team, into a bucket or basket, held up by a teacher.

There was also a relay race that only adults, year 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and year 6 captains could engage in the race. At the end the red team won and celebrated victoriously. The score was 100 to 89, the red team had won the whole undoukai for 2023. After the red team, we did a traditional Japanese dance called Bon Odori. It had very basic moves to dance to the music. While most of the school was doing on odori, the year 6 taiko group was playing the music for the dance. The whole thing was packed up after 7:30pm and everyone went back home.
