One-two-rful 1/2s

Term 1 Week 10 2022 - Thursday 6th March

What have we been up to?

It’s been a great start to the 2023 school year and all students should be proud of their proactive attitudes to their learning over the last 10 weeks. However, after all that learning I’m sure we can all agree that the students are deserving of a chance to Sharpen Their Saws (Habit 7) over the Term 1 holidays.

Over the last couple of weeks students have been reading a range of different texts and using different strategies to find out what the main idea in the text is. Students have been looking for clues such as reading the title, identifying important words and reading the final sentences in the final paragraph.

For the last 5 weeks students have been working towards writing an Information Report independently. They have worked hard on developing their understanding of different language features such as nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs and how these can be used to make their writing more exciting. Their Information Reports were finished this week and will be published for students to share in their Leadership Notebooks.

In Maths, students have been further developing their understanding of Place Value and how all numbers can be represented and created using ones or units, tens, hundreds and beyond. They have also been expanding their knowledge of problem solving strategies by drawing out a problem in order to solve it.

In Inquiry, students have concluded their unit of learning about My Learning Brain. They have explored the incredible things their brains are capable of and the amount of control they have over their choices and behaviours. Our unit of learning in Science has also come to  close after a busy term learning about the wide range of creatures that exist in our community and the important things those animals need in order to survive.

We hope you and your families have a restful Term 1 holiday and we look forward to seeing you back in the classroom next term on the 26th of April.

Here are some photo highlights from the fortnight that was!

Learning over the holidays:

  • Try to continue reading aloud for a minimum of 10 minutes every day of the holidays.
  • Maybe create a Writing Holiday Journal to record your experiences of the next two weeks - printed pictures of the experiences can help with engaging students in this type of activity.
  • Find ways to make maths practical and fun - why not count the number of spoons your family owns and then compare that to the number of forks you own - are they the same? Are they different? What’s the difference?

Important reminders:

  • Whilst students will not need their hats in Term 2 they are still welcome to wear them if they choose to. The weather might be cooler next term but it’s still important to bring in a drink bottle each day.
  •
  • If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's classroom teacher through Compass or via the school email and it will be passed on to them.
