Fabulous 5/6

5/6

Week 10

This week we were lucky enough to have our lightning carnival for T-ball on Friday. This took place at Mentone Sporting fields and saw three Le Page teams compete. The boys and mixed teams played four games throughout the day whilst the girl’s team, who were in group A, played three. There are many highlights across the day. For the girls team, Lucy played really well on centre and Monique dominated on first base with her catching skills. Julia was our most consistent batter as she always got to base. For me personally, the best part of the day was listening to the girl’s chant before every game! A highlight for the boys was their outstanding sportsmanship in all their games. This sportsmanship even got recognised by another teacher from another school and they commended the way the boys acted throughout the day. This is a testament to every single one of them. For the mixed team, the team consisted of many grade 4 girls, who have never played a game of T-Ball before. It was amazing to see how much they learnt in such a short amount of time.

Every single team played their heart out and had fun doing it! The kids showed great sportsmanship and represented the school in a very positive way.

Thank you too all the staff and Jarrod for organising the whole event.

During the final week of term the 5/6’s had their Mock Parliament as their conclusion to this inquiry unit. Throughout the term, we have investigated Parliamentary procedure in Australia and how different leadership forms impact our community. The kids used their knowledge of the three levels of government, Ministerial positions and persuasive speaking to be effective members of government. Mock Parliament saw the kids present for 5 minutes about a chosen topic as a minister. They told Parliament what the government is currently doing, what they would change and how they would spend $500 million to help their prosed changes occur. It was a successful day for grade 5/6 that saw all the student extend their knowledge of parliamentary procedure.

We have had an abundance of highlights this term in 5/6. The term started with a bang as we continued with the Leader in Me program and we pushed the kids to proactively search for a Win/Win solution. The grade 5’s also had their NAPLAN testing this term and did very well. We also began to explore different states of matter and how materials would transfer from a solid to a liquid, liquid to a gas and a gas to a solid as well as looking at the difference of materials in regard to its density.

Leaders Highlights

Hi, my name is Clement, and I am a leader in chess, and my name is Joshua, and I am a leader in Top Gun. In the last two weeks, we have been writing the speeches for the mock parliament. We have also been preparing the PowerPoints for the parliament. I am the Shadow Minister of technology (Clement), and I am the Shadow Minister of Defence. In Maths, we have been learning about addition. I have also been looking at basic algebra (Clement). In Culture, we are making Venetian masks. We had to wear face masks because of all the dust that was stirred from ripping the plaster! On Friday, we had our T-Ball Lightning Premiership. The boys’ team only won one match, and the girls’ teams did not win any match and all the teams came last in the competition. We were a bit sad, and it was unfortunate, but we had a fun day. Have an extraordinary holiday break!
