News from One/Two

Hi Everyone,

As you may be aware, our class is studying ‘Our Community’. A few weeks ago we were lucky enough to have Dale Feim from Dalcorp (Accountancy) come and chat with our 1/2 class. In preparation for the event, the children learned about asking clear questions and had to develop these to ask Dale about his business.

When Dale came into our classroom he answered each of the children’s questions, discussed how his business had started, who and how his business helped our community, and finished off by giving everyone in the class a lucky lollipop!

It was a great afternoon which the children thoroughly enjoyed. The teachers were also so proud of the children and the way they conducted themselves in the presence of a visitor. Thank you Dale for taking the time to visit these amazing students!!

Here are some examples of the questions that the children asked Dale:

Where is the location for your business? Liliana

How many taxes have you done? Archer

Have you ever had a bad day? Jordan

When did you get your business? Arlo

Who is the boss? Annabelle

Who comes to your work? Annabelle

In the next few weeks, the 1 / 2 class will be creating some community precincts. The children have been divided into small groups and each group will design and create (using materials) a different community precinct. For example, one group has a farming precinct and will have wheat crops, sheds, and dams and another group will have a sporting precinct with a swimming pool, sports oval, and playground. We look forward to sharing all of these creations with you shortly. Thank you to Libby Bradshaw for coming to help us with this amazing project!

Excitingly, next Monday the 20th of March, we will also be having a visit from our local police to help us in our discussion about people in our community that help us.

During our learning in the next couple of weeks, we will be discussing narrative writing in English and in Mathematics measurement and probability. We had fun recently during our measurement topic; ordering the students in our class from the tallest to the shortest among other mathematical activities.

Please remember that our class performance for assembly has been moved to Term 2 on Monday the 8th of May. Please be in touch if you have any questions.

Kindly,

Jacqui Tarquinio and Terry Foley
