On Tuesday 14th of March, 15 students from our school attended the ‘2023 Riviera Secondary Schools Championships’ held at the Field and Game Australia, Bairnsdale Field and Game shooting range.

The event saw 30 schools coming together from as far as Orbost and Lilydale and right across Gippsland. The event was a 20 target, ‘simulated field’ event, with students competing in 2 rounds of 10 targets each across the day. Students had 1 shot at each target over a challenging set of stands on 2 different course layouts.

Overall, our students were mid-pack at the end of the day. As this was the first event for the year, we were reasonably pleased with our efforts but still with room to improve.

This was also the first event for our 2023 Team Captain, Ethan Rogers. After an extensive interview process, Year 11 student Ethan was selected to lead and represent MSC for 2023. His duties include assisting teaching staff in team selections, maintaining the team’s firearms, helping new shooters to find their way at events and ensuring that all team members are aware of, and wearing the correct PPE and shooting vests at events. Ethan’s first outing as Captain was a success and he demonstrated a mature attitude and took his role seriously throughout.

Our team results are as follows: Ethan Rogers 10/20, Zayden Mawson 16/20, Jack Bravington 12/20, Kade Mahoney 11/20, Julia Reti 6/20, Alex Whitehead 13/20, Lochie Trolove 12/20, Liam Paulet 11/20, Brian Gorwell 10/20, Ruben Corbell 15/20, Brysen 12/20, Declan Collins 7/20, Alex Giles 10/20, Hunter Appleton 6/20, Jacob Jackson 6/20.
