Year 9 students and families,

We hope this newsletter finds you well and settling into the new school year. With a range of exciting events and learning opportunities on the horizon, we wanted to share some important updates with you.

Preparation for NAPLAN in English and Math:

As we move towards the NAPLAN testing period, we want to ensure all Year 9 students are prepared and confident in their abilities. Our teachers have been working hard to deliver comprehensive lesson plans to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in these assessments. We encourage students to approach their studies with diligence and dedication and to seek support from teachers if needed.

City Camp is in Term 3:

Get ready for an immersive and exciting camp experience coming your way in Term 3. We are thrilled to announce the Camp City program, which will offer you a chance to explore and engage with the rich cultural, historical, and natural resources of our city. Although more information will be shared closer to the time, we encourage all of you to start preparing for this exciting adventure now. Please note that deposits to secure your spot are due by the end of Term 1. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity!

Health and Wellbeing Day in Week 9:

We are committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of our students, both inside and outside of the classroom. The day will be divided into separate programs for boys and girls, with the boys participating in the Man Cave program and the girls engaging with Embrace Your Body. These programs are designed to provide students with the necessary tools and strategies to develop positive mental health, resilience, and self-esteem.

New class Small Engines:

We want to share some exciting news this class that has been added to the Year 9 curriculum. Small Engines is a practical and hands-on subject that teaches students how to work with engines. Students will have the opportunity to take apart and fix motors, as well as learning fault diagnosis. This class is perfect for students who are interested in mechanics and engineering, and we look forward to seeing the skills and knowledge they develop.

Parks WEEK:

Student leadership at year 9, participated in Parks week, particularly in running activities.  It is a great way to develop their leadership skills while enjoying the benefits of spending time in nature. Through engaging in activities such as planting trees, picking up litter, and participating in outdoor games, the year 9 student leaders showed skills such as working collaboratively, take responsibility, and communicate effectively with others. Furthermore, they can develop a sense of responsibility towards the environment and learn how to make positive contributions to the world around them. By running activities that the Year 7 and 8 Students got to enjoy they built their confidence, and this has prepared them for future leadership roles in their school and community.
