What’s been happening in 5 /6 this term?

This term the students in grade 5 and 6 have been engaged in their learning around growth and change for Inquiry. As part of the Respectful Relationships program the students have also focused on Topic 7: Gender and Identity. The learning activities within this topic assist students to challenge stereotypes and learn about key issues relating to human rights and focus on the importance of respect within relationships.

As part of the learning, the students engaged in a lesson that explored a positive gender role model. The students were given the task to research and report on a positive role model who has made positive accomplishments, shown positive characteristics or positively contributed to our community. The role model could reflect a contemporary famous person (sports person, politician, scientist), a historical figure or a fictional character.

My Role Model - Maanika from 5/6S

My role model is Mithali Raj. Mithali Raj inspires me because she started playing cricket at the age of 10, similar to me. But sadly she retired in the year of 2022 . Mithali Raj's other name is Lady Sachin, and she is seen as the Lady Sachin Tendulkar of India.

Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj inspires me because when I watch her playing she always says "Come on girls we are better than the boys go, go, go!" She also says that her mum always used to say "Mithu girls do not play cricket, leave cricket and learn how to cook, study and mop that’s what girls do". Mithali didn't listen and she stood by her choice to do something that she loves. That's why she inspires me.
