Mandarin News

Students of all year levels at St Columba’s enjoy learning Mandarin, simplified Chinese. They are always enthusiastic about applying what they have learned in Mandarin lessons to real-life scenarios.

Preps are now confident to introduce themselves, their family members, and their preference for colours in Mandarin. According to our preps’ comments, Mandarin lessons are also “fun” and “wonderful” for them to explore Chinese culture.

Year1/2s have explored Chinese words and sentences for healthy lifestyles. They are now able to read Chinese Pinyin to help them memorise vocabularies. As part of the Chinese community study, our 1/2s also practised Taichi to gain an insight into this traditional exercise.

Year 3/4s can now talk about their interests and basic daily schedules in Mandarin. They have also achieved the milestone of reading and understanding Chinese characters.

Our Year 5/6s are always good at initiating conversations in Mandarin. Their topics cover weather, seasons, clothing, and shopping. Proudly, their Chinese character handwriting is as good as native Chinese learners.
