Around the School

Our students are still working hard with Kay Smith in producing our murals. Kay and our students have completed 4 of the 6 art works to be displayed in our school and they look amazing.

This is what Kay had to say about our Mural Project so far -

" I have really enjoyed working on the schools murals which are inspired by students artworks and feature Guyra and all of its seasons. Staff members have also contributed ideas. The primary and secondary students have improved their art skills and colour choices with each panel and they are really starting to come together.  It will look really amazing on completion. "

Guyra Central School would like to acknowledge and thank  Kay for the work she has done with our students creating our murals so far.  We look forward to sharing our completed project with our school community in the near future.

Northern Schools Prime Pork Competition

The inaugural Northern Schools Prime Pork Competition was held at Bingara Showgrounds on Wednesday 31st August 2022 and Guyra Central School participated in this fantastic competition with two young piglets sourced from Horton Piggery in Bingara.

The piglets were prepared and weighed weekly by students in years 8-12 for 9 weeks. In this time the piglets put on 98kg and ate 275kg of feed. Our pigs were competing in the porker category and achieved 2nd and 3rd place in the category. Darcy Grills (year

made a presentation to the other schools describing how we had prepared our pigs and their resulting growth rates from 34kg to 90kg in 9 weeks.

Showing Pride, Respect and Responsibility, our students were once again a credit to our school.

Thank you to Mr Jason Eddy and Ethan Harris (Year 11) for their assistance in caring for the pigs, for driving the bus and assisting with supervision of students.

Additionally, I would like to extend Guyra Central School's appreciation and thank Mara and Anthony Grills for loading and transporting our pigs to Bingara and for supporting our school so generously.

Tomorrow Man + Tomorrow Woman & The Work Readiness Program

Tomorrow Man + Tomorrow Woman are targeted programs with clear outcomes, encapsulating the four dimensions of Australian Curriculum Respectful Relationships.  The program additionally includes content to support emotional learning skills.

On Thursday 15th September,  Year 10 students participated in the Tomorrow Man + Tomorrow Woman Program. Each of the modules were highly engaging and relatable for our year 10 cohort.

Tomorrow Man took our male students on a learning journey training them on how to walk their own path, talk with gravity and engage actively, with purpose, in all areas of their lives.

Tomorrow Woman took our female students on an aspiring journey to re-ignite their innate voice and empower each of our students to confidently express their needs and opinions in the moments that matter.

Our year 10 students were given the opportunity to students involve themselves in the Work Readiness Program.  They were treated to free haircuts, dressing for a job interview, received advice to keep their skin healthy and the “Less is more,” approach to makeup.

It was a transforming day for many of the students and were extremely positive about the programs they participated in. I thank them for their eager participation and support of one another.

Thank you to Mr Jeremy Galvin and Mr Jason Allwood who supported our year 10 male students through the programs and Miss Kailyn Marsh who assisted me supporting the female students throughout the day.
