Well done to all the students in Year 11 (studying a 3 & 4 unit) and Year 12 Students who completed the GAT last Wednesday.
The GAT (General Achievement Test) is a test of general knowledge and skills including communication, mathematics, science and technology, the arts, humanities and social sciences. The GAT is sat in 2 parts across the day. A special surprise for the break was organised by Mrs Telford and Mrs McLeod... 'Big Bear Donuts'.
Year 12 Students attended a presentation by Elevate designed to help students 'Ace Your Exams'. This presentation helped students to refine their study skills and how to best use their time in the lead-up to the end-of-year exams which are fast approaching!
Year 12 English students attended a revision lecture put on by the Department of Education and led by Ross Huggard, who is an experienced assessor for English. Students from throughout the Outer Gippsland Region participated and received guidance on the content of the English Examination and how to attack it.
Bairnsdale Secondary College student Owen in Year 11 participated in the Kokoda Trek over the June school holidays. Last week Owen delivered a wonderful speech to the staff telling everyone about his experience during the trek. Owen spoke about the people he met, the food he ate, walking through rivers with slippery rocks and not knowing how long it was until they got to camp for the night. The trek was 128 km long which took 9 days. On the last day they flew over the jungle back to Port Moresby which took just 20 minutes!
An exciting game of Basketball was held last Thursday as part of the R U OK? Day celebrations. It was an exciting game with the staff being victorious with a 8 goal win.

Year 10 Outdoor Education
The Year 10 Outdoor Education class headed to Paynesville for a canoe trip on September 8th. The class practiced their paddling technique as a light breeze blew them along to Sunset Cove, where some impressive tactics and strength saw the red boats win a game of canoe polo, without any capsizes. It was then a slower paddle coming back along Newlands Arm, especially heading back into a strong easterly wind, making travel very difficult. All groups had to work hard and cooperate together and were able to get back. The afternoon was more relaxing, heading to Raymond Island to see koalas, an echidna, rosellas and cormorants. What a great day!
