Jurassic World: Dominion

Teen Movie Screening

Jurassic World: Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.

Phone 5152 4225 or book in person at the library for this FREE event. For ages 12 to 18. Bookings essential.

Gippsland Engaged Mentoring program

The Gippsland Engaged Mentoring (GEM) program, delivered by Workways Australia, currently partners with several local schools ranging from Orbost, Swifts Creek, Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale to provide mentors for young people. Youth who are “at risk” or disengaged or struggling at school, home or community are connected with volunteer adult mentors who provide friendship, advice, support and conversation.

According to GEM, “the volunteer mentors who give of their time each week make a real difference in the lives of our participants, particularly so for those young people who may not have a stable adult presence in their lives at that time.” One hour a week is all that is required to make a difference.

Training is provided for all volunteers and mentors must pass a police and working with children check. There are no other qualifications required for these volunteer roles, just good listening skills and a passion for supporting youth in East Gippsland.

Due to the difficulties in attendance during the school holidays and work days, GEM will offer evening training in:

Orbost  - 3rd and 10th October from 5.00 pm – 9.00 pm with catering provided

Bairnsdale -  13th and 20th October from 5.00 pm – 9.00 pm with catering provided

Community members who would like to volunteer to be a part of youth mentoring should contact Workways staff Janelle on 0419 802 772 or Sue on 0436 480 357
