Welcome Spring & Thank You Winter!

As Spring officially begins tomorrow, we look forward to the sunshine that is promised to us! The weekend provided a snapshot of what we have been longing for; blue skies, birds singing and native flowers in bloom. Heading down to Henley Square, I could see hundreds of Adelaidians outside making the most of the glorious day!

I try not to wait for the future and wish for the times ahead, but somehow this Winter has felt particularly cold, dark, and relentlessly wet. In the busy-ness of life, inside play and contemplating when it is worth switching the heater on (after you have already tried wearing thermals and an oodie of course), you can become so used to the state of feeling cold.

Genesis 8:22 says: As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.

This Bible verse is a reminder of what we have to be thankful for from our Winter. We have been blessed with abundant rainfall, we have enjoyed some sunshine, found worms in our gardens, and enjoyed the fruits and vegetables that Winter has to offer us.

Ephesians 4:23 says: Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.

When I reframe my view of the cold season, I realise the gratitude I have for the simple things. Rainfall for myself, the lazy gardener, to ensure the plants remain watered. Opportunities to sit by the fire and spend time with loved ones. Being able to rug up on the couch with a cup of tea and a book.

So, Spring – we welcome you with wide, open arms for all that you bring! Winter, we thank you for what you provide in our lives, and to our God’s creation.
