St Anne's impressive at athletics carnival

St Anne’s College had 28 enthusiastic competitors at yesterday’s Goulburn Murray Secondary School Sports Association Athletics Carnival. Students from Years 7 through to 10 sprinted, jumped and threw their way into many of the placings with lots of blue, red and green to wave around upon the return to school. Zoe Monteleone and Bailey Stevens were the 16 Year Age Champions, a first for our college, and the 16 Year Boys 4 x 100 m relay team blitzed their rivals in recording an emphatic victory. Several of our students can now look forward to showcasing their skills at the Hume Division finals which will be held on Thursday, October 6 at the Albury athletics complex.

Changes to netball competition for 2023

As we approach the end of the 2022 netball season, we would like to thank all the parents/carers, players, coaches and team managers for a great season.

We have noticed that girls don’t typically continue playing netball for their schools once they have completed playing in 13&U divisions at our local SNA competition. There are several reasons for this, and the recent pandemic has only further affected the playing competition.

Volunteer numbers have also declined and netball clubs are finding it extremely difficult to find coaches, team managers and committees to run their clubs.

To curb this decline and increase participation in netball, in 2023 Central Notre Dame Netball Club will be rebranded to become the new SHEPPARTON SAINTS NETBALL CLUB (SSNC). It willno longer be affiliated only with Notre Dame College; and will now connect our local Catholic school communities more broadly in Greater Shepparton.

SSNC will open registrations for teams to enter the SNA competition in:

13&U (Primary)

13&U (Secondary)

15&U

17&U

Open divisions

SSNC will base its connections with Notre Dame College and St Anne’s College (for secondary school Years 7 to 11 in 2023).

Once a player reaches the 13&U primary age group, the players are invited to transition to the Shepparton Saints Netball Club, where all players from all primary schools will combine to form multiple teams.

SSNC will be open for any player in our region to play netball, despite which school they are enrolled at. The introduction of Shepparton Saints Netball Club will ensure:

1. Stronger committee representation from primary to secondary schools.

2. Moving from primary to secondary netball is a smoother transition.

3. Teams registered are suitable for all skill levels of netball to ensure girls can continue to enjoy playing through to senior levels.

Shepparton Saints Netball Club will aim to:

1. Increase the number of players at secondary level age group, in particular 15&U & 17&U.

2. Develop and support coaching roles.

3. Develop and support umpires within our club.

4. Be inclusive for everyone in the community of all abilities and backgrounds.

Because of this, St Anne's Sports Association will not be not be putting teams directly into the Shepparton Netball Association competition in 2023; instead St Anne’s players will play for the combined Saints teams.

This will be a positive step towards maintaining a great local competition, enabling players to get the coaching and development they need, and ensuring enough players and volunteers are available to facilitate teams. We think this change will encourage the enjoyment of netball for our kids for many years to come!

This is a very exciting time and one we hope you come on board with and support.

More information will be provided prior to the 2023 season commencing.

If you would like to join the current working group committee to help develop the new Saints club formation, please email your interest to sheppsaintsnc@gmail.com.
