Mr Nathan Asher | Head of Secondary
'For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others'. Romans 12:4-5
As I continue to settle into the school and my role as Head of Secondary, I am constantly amazed at the remarkable community that we have here at NCS. I have felt welcomed and cared for - by staff, students and the wider school community.
The Bible regularly speaks about a Christian community as being one and united, or uses the image of a body and language such as brothers and sisters. It is my hope that your child feels and experiences the joy and warmth that comes from being a valued member of our school community.
Our School is truly a busy place! Our Seniors, whilst finishing Design and Technology projects and performing their Drama pieces, have persevered through their Trial Examinations in preparation for the HSC next term. Our student leaders regularly lead lunchtime Bible Studies (Thursdays), FISH (Christian group for Secondary School students) and CRU (Christian group for Junior School students).
We have celebrated Book Week, sent representative sporting teams away and engaged in many meaningful lessons - both in and out of the classroom. And all of this is done in a loving, supportive Christian community.
You may have seen advertising for ‘R U OK? Day’ being held this week. While we didn’t officially run anything as a school, it is still a chance for all of us to be encouraged to ask family, friends and those near to us, 'Are you ok?' It is a chance for to take responsibility for people in their lives who may be struggling and need an opportunity to say 'I’m not ok' to those they love.
I heard many discussions about this theme over the past few days. There are plenty of helpful resources out there, but I found this one particularly helpful in guiding what to say. It is important for a Christian community, such as our school, to care for those in need. If we have not met already, I am looking forward to meeting you and knowing more members of this great community we have. I trust that we, as a school, can continue to partner with you in the education and shaping of your children.
