STEAM News

Foundation students have been monitoring the growth of their bean plants over the past few weeks. Unfortunately, some bean seeds have not sprouted as we would have hoped so we spoke about what happens when we add too much water, or our plants receive too much sunlight. We also read a book about how helpful bees are for our gardens and made our own bumblebees.

Year 2 students are continuing to observe our mealworms and this week noticed several changes. The mealworms have been eating a tremendous amount, growing, and shedding their exoskeletons several times as they grow. Many are entering the pupal stage where they seem to be quite inactive, but they are slowly transforming themselves.

After 2-3 weeks we hope to see some beetles!

Year 6 students have been discussing the role of robotics in creating prosthetic legs and arms for those who need them. They are currently making robotic hands out of construction paper, straws and string which will be able to be moved by pulling on the strings.
