Prayers

We pray for all in our community who are sick or suffering.

We pray for our Marist school community, especially our Year 12 students during these times of challenge. We give thanks for the gift of our families who love and care for us.We pray for our country and our world still living in this pandemic and we remember the many who have suffered through COVID...May our loving God, with Mary and Champagnat, walk with all members of the Marist family. Amen

Reflection

Catholics celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary - the Assumption, for short - on Sunday 15 August. The Assumption is when Catholics honour Mary's journey into heaven. Mary is taken up, body and soul, where she is Mother of the Church as well as the Mother of God.

Scripture records little of Mary but her ‘yes’ to the Angel to be the Mother of the Redeemer, her role in Jesus' first miracle at Cana, her faithful presence in His public ministry, at His death, and finally with the first Christians at Pentecost.

For over 2000 years, she has protected the Church and showered believers with blessings.

The Sub Tuum is the oldest known prayer to Mary and is special to this Marist community.

Sub tuum praesidium confugimus, confugimus
We turn to you for protection
Sancta Dei Genitrix, Sancta Dei Genitrix
Holy Mother of God
Nostras deprecationes ne despicias, ne despicias
Listen to our prayers
in necessitatibus nostris,
and help us in our needs.
sed a periculis cunctis libera nos semper
Save us from every danger
virgo gloriosa et benedicta.
glorious and blessed Virgin.

We are a Marist Community specially devoted to and focussed upon Mary, whom our Founder Fr Champagnat called Our Good Mother. Marian Feasts such as this one are always prayerful times of celebration for people who name themselves Marist and the College community Mass held to honour this feast was a powerful and timely message of the importance of Mary in the life of Marists. We thank the students and staff who participated so beautifully in this online Mass.
