with.... Geraldine Martin

Geraldine Martin grew up in the Wheatbelt town of Katanning and has been an Education Assistant at St Norbert College for four years, working closely with indigenous students. In her spare time, Mrs Martin plays full forward for the Kenwick Royals in the Women’s B Grade Division in the Perth Football League, and this week organised our NAIDOC Week Celebrations. St Norbert News: How has the footy season been going so far?

Footy season so far has been great - we are fourth on the ladder.  

 

SNN: How old were you when you first started playing AFLW and what do you love about it? 

GM: I started playing footy at the age of 45. Over the years I have seen some very good footy, but to watch the women AFL is so different and very exciting. 

 

SNN: Do you see many past or present students down at the club? 

GM: Kenwick is a community footy club and yes, I do see a lot of the past and present students down there each week.

 

SNN: What do you enjoy most about your role at St Norbert College?

GM: Working with indigenous students to motivate their learning and enrich their lives by providing a positive role model for them in the College and in the wider community.

 

SNN: What have been some of the highlights of your time at SNC?

GM: Coaching basketball and generally just working with our indigenous students.

 

SNN: Why is NAIDOC Week important to indigenous and non-indigenous people?

GM: NAIDOC Week is very important to me, I am able to teach and share my Culture and celebrate the History of Our “First Nations People”.
