Waste Wise Schools Student Meet

Waste Wise Schools Student Meet

On Wednesday the 28 July, eight Climate Canons participated in the first Waste Wise Schools Student Meet, hosted by Methodist Ladies College. The event was for secondary school students who drive change in waste management and sustainability at their schools and saw our students participate in hearing from guest speakers from the industry and students from MLC, Christ Church Grammar School, John Curtin College of the Arts and Manea Senior College Bunbury.

Waste management information stalls from industry providers were on site to talk to the students about waste management ideas for schools and the most important part of the evening was the ‘speed networking’, where students got 5 minutes to talk to different schools about what they were achieving and where they needed assistance. It was great fun and an eye opening experience to learn what other schools are doing in regards to sustainability. The networking with students from other high schools and learning about successful waste management practices at schools around Perth gave our Climate Canons a real boost in confidence that our team and projects are effective and our ideas and experiences are purposeful.

Thank you to Aiden Barry (Year 8), Sharie Fernandez, Akshita Minhas and Isabella Hulm (Year 10), Jacinta Barraza (Year 11), and Ali Tkacz, Paul Fuentes and Zeta Stevens (Year 12) for being outstanding representatives of the Climate Canons and the College at this event. We would also like to thank Mrs Alysia Gustafsson for giving up her evening to drive the bus and support us.
