Co-curricular

Senior School Summer Sport 2021/22

As the 2021 Senior School Co-curricular year draws to a close, it is now time to cast our attention toward to the 2021/22 Summer Season with hope that the Cricket, Basketball, Baseball and Swimming competitions will take place and bring back some sense of normality. It is the College’s intention to plan accordingly and commence trials once NSW Health and relevant authorities give the go ahead. Details relating to trial times and venues will be released to the boys and parents/carers in due course. It may well be the case that we simply trial and play internal fixtures this side of Christmas and then play competitive games in Term 1 of next year.

Co-Curricular Selection Form – 2022

With an optimistic and hopeful eye to the future, the Co-curricular Selection Form for 2022 will be distributed electronically to all parents/carers of students in Year 7 through to Year 11 via Sentral next week. It is imperative that parents and students carefully read the information provided prior to making their choices. Most would be aware that the 2022 Co-curricular year in the Senior School commences at the start of Term 4 this year and will conclude at the end of Term 3, 2022. I would kindly remind parents that once boys indicate they are going to participate in an activity they are making a binding commitmentPlease feel free to contact me if you have any queries on 9763 1000 or via email steven.fochesato@spc.nsw.edu.au. Boys will be notified via email that their selection forms have been sent to you.

It is my intention to meet with our current Year 6 cohort in or around mid-Term 4 prior to sending selection forms to their parents/carers. These families will be notified in due course.

Selection forms are to be completed by no later than Friday 10 September 2021, and please note that any form of resumption of activities will do so under strict COVID-19 protocols.

The expectations on students in relation to their involvement in the College’s Co-curricular Program are clearly stated in the Statement of Enrolment Understanding. To date, the vast majority of students and parents adhere to these expectations as agreed upon at the pre-enrolment interview. In recent years, the College has been informed of a number of clashes relating to College Sport and outside club commitments. As such, there have been times when our students have been placed in unfortunate situations.

To inform and clarify the College’s position, I would want you to know the following:

  • Ordinarily, most Senior School Sports run for approximately 15 weeks. They involve 10 to 13 Saturday fixtures (Grand Finals fixtures included). The Baseball and Cricket (NDJCA) seasons run considerably longer.

  • Where possible, advanced notice of the season’s fixtures list can be found on the College website and Team App. Please note that TBC does not indicate a Bye.

  • The College’s Heads of Sport determine where and when home fixtures are played. There will be times that visiting schools will make specific requests and where possible, the College may accommodate them.

  • Regarding Football, the College places its 13 A, 14 A, 15 A and 16 A Home fixtures at specific times in order to avoid clashes with the outside ‘representative’ club fixtures. That said, it has become increasingly difficult given some clubs have elected to play their fixtures outside of the traditional and accepted time slots.  Our Heads of Sport will also ask schools hosting our boys to set similar times to avoid these clashes. Wherever possible, the hosting school will accommodate these requests.

  • Any boy wishing to alter the activities he nominated on the form must provide me with a written request from his parents prior to the commencement of the season.  Permission to be granted leave from participating in a selected activity will not ordinarily be given unless it is due to medical reasons.
