Doctors in Schools

The Doctors in Schools program is now available at the VUSC Senior Campus.
Starting this term, a female doctor and female nurse will be in attendance every Friday in our new Doctors in Schools building at the Senior Campus. The doctor is an adolescent-health trained GP from the local area, subject to providing the required consent for the services.
The objectives of the program are to:
- make primary health care more accessible to students
- provide assistance to young people to identify and address any health problems early
- reduce the pressure on working parents.
There is no cost to the student or parent/guardian for student consultations with the GP.
What can the Doctor assist students with?
- Same services at the school as those provided by GP’s in the community
- Physical Health Checks
- Mental Health Checks
When is the Doctor’s clinic open and what are the appointment times?
The clinic is open every Friday. Appointment times are 11am, 12pm 12:30pm, 2:00pm and 2:30pm. Students can also walk in and see the Doctor without an appointment during recess and lunch time.
How can students make an appointment?
Students can make an appointment or enquire about the Doctor's clinic by seeing Kim Charles next to Ms Hazim's office or emailing her at: Kimberley.Charles@vusc.vic.edu.au. Students can also be referred to the Doctor by a teacher or member of the Wellbeing Team.
Can parents make appointments?
Parents of children who attend either the Junior Campus or Senior Campus can also make appointments for their children by contacting Kim Charles as above.
Consent and Confidentiality
Consistent with Australian common law, the program recognises that:
- any student who wants to see the GP will be permitted to book an appointment
- the GP will decide whether the young person is mature enough to consent to medical treatment or whether parent/carer consent is needed - as is the case with all GPs in the community
the right for a young person’s health information to be kept confidential will be respected unless the disclosure is with the consent of the young person or it is otherwise permitted by law – as is the case with all GP practice in the community.
