Building Update

Today the new Year 1/2 Learning Community was finally handed over to us so that we could begin moving in! Lots of excitement for the children and the teachers as they begin to enjoy this beautiful new learning space.

Year 1/2C and Year 1/2H are now officially the new residents along with Year Prep V who will also share the space for the remainder of this year.

Year Prep N children have been  relocated to our spare room in the hall which is used by OHSClub after school. Mrs Childs, Mrs La Fauci and the Preps will still be working together as they enjoy the last few weeks of the year preparing for their end of year activities and Buddy activities.

Our teachers will ensure that the transition to the new Learning Areas will be as smooth as possible to enable everyone to settle in and continue their learning with a minimum of disruption.

Stage 2 of the building program will commence next week. As you have been advised  through our newsletter during the year this involves the refurbishment of our Prep Learning Area and the development of our new Library Discovery Centre (in the  old Year 1/2 Learning Area) which will be ready in the new year.

2019 Planning

Our planning for 2019 is well underway in regards to staffing and class structure. If any family knows that they will not be returning in 2019 I ask you to make contact with the school office as soon as practical.

Please ensure that all items of clothing and the swimming bag are clearly labelled with the child’s name and grade. No jewellery is to be worn during the swimming program.

Parents who wish to observe their children swim are asked to adhere to the following guidelines as set by the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre:

ALL parents/spectators must enter through the main entrance doors and report to customer service to advise they are watching the swim program with the school

No photographs are to be taken by parents/spectators

Parents/spectators must remain 4 metres from the edge of the pool and are NOT to approach children (or instructors) during lessons

Throughout the program we encourage the children to be as independent as possible, including getting themselves dressed in the change rooms after their lesson. Therefore parents are NOT permitted in the change rooms while the children are getting changed. Teachers will be reminding you of this so please respect their requests. We also ask that items from the canteen are not purchased for children.

During the swimming program it is important that all children have a healthy and hearty breakfast and that they bring some extra healthy snacks to keep them going throughout the day, especially since they will be having an earlier lunch than normal.

Our recess breaks will be 10:50 am - 11:50 am and 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm.

16 Hands Incursion

On Monday we all enjoyed a visit from Bare, a 6 year old gelding, as part of the Community Education Program 16 Hands which has been created to educate primary aged children about the thoroughbred horse.

Children had the opportunity to learn about horse health, anatomy and some interesting horse facts. The  visit concluded with every child and teacher having the opportunity to pat Bare.

Art Show 2018

Save the date for our biannual Art Show to be held on Friday November 16,  6:00  -8:00pm.

The Art Show will showcase the children's art work for this year.  It is a wonderful opportunity to see your own child's work and that of the other students in the school.

We will also be auctioning a canvas completed by each class.  This is an exciting part of the night and  will commence at 7.30pm. We look forward to seeing all families and friends on the night.

I would also ask for volunteers on the morning and afternoon of the show to help pin the work up.  Any time you are available to pop in would be much appreciated. Please register your interest on Care Monkey.
