Student Exchange News

Exchange Update
Last week many of our families had a wonderful experience hosting a New Caledonian exchange student. Here are some of the things they enjoyed:
"I went to New Caledonia this year and it was the best experience I have ever had! I would definitely recommended going on the trip with the school. I decided to host Nolan and Kelian when they came to Melbourne because I thought that it would be a great experience since I was already friends with them when I went over there. Some of the things we did together were Laser Tag, Tunza Fun and Gravity Zone. It was a wonderful experience and I would highly suggest hosting as you make new friends and it really gets you out of your comfort zone. I have stayed in contact with the boys I hosted and I grew such a close bond with them so I definitely think we will stay in touch."

"Hosting for me was an experience that I had been wanting to do again, as I also hosted in year 7. There were many activities that I did with my host Lilia, we got to explore lots of places. My family and I took her to go to the local shopping centres and we let her try all the foods she had never tried before, we took her to the movies and to the Moorabbin DFO. She also attended a family party where she met most of my family, and although we didn't go anywhere big, we all ended up enjoying ourselves. There were many moments spent together just getting to know each other and we both listened to music in the car. I still do speak to her and she is now a good friend of mine I hope to stay in touch with her in the future.
Making new friends from foreign countries is something everyone should get to experience, overall hosting is a great experience and is worthwhile in the long run."

"It was good fun hosting a New Caledonian student because we got to do a lot of fun stuff. It was great to show him around and it meant I got to do lots of activities too. We went bowling, to the drive-in, and we taught him all about footy which is limited in New Caledonia. We made friends with him and still follow each other on social media. It’s definitely worth the sacrifice of a bed for a week!"
Josh Butler - Year 11
"Hosting a student from New Caledonia was such an amazing and unforgettable experience. I decided to host a student from New Caledonia because I thought it would give me the opportunity to enhance and improve my French and create a bond with a student from overseas. Another reason was because I hosted a student from New Caledonia in 2018 and it was the best experience ever, and my 2018 student and I created such a strong bond and still talk. While my student stayed with me, we did a lot of shopping, went on the Puffing Billy, visited Luna Park, went bowling with the other hosts and students and much more. We spent a lot of time with the other hosts and exchange students and that made the experience even better. I would definitely host again because it was such a great experience. My host and I have been speaking every day since she left, and we will definitely stay in touch because we created such a strong friendship. We are already planning to visit each other next year!"
