From our Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,
Welcome to this week’s edition of the Newsletter.
It is hard to believe that we are at the mid-point of term three. The term and year is flying by. This week I met up with the Year 12 students on the Cranbourne Campus and next week it will be the Clyde Nth Campus turn. The message was a simple one, “you cannot expect to fulfill your potential unless you are prepared to work exceptionally hard”. This must be reflected in effort within the classroom and beyond. I spoke recently at a school assembly about “Grit” and the concept whereby dreams can only be realised if there is that preparedness to work exceptionally hard to achieve. We, both parents and staff have a responsibility to support them along this critical stage of their journey.
Science Week
This week the college has been stimulated, enthralled and exposed to the wonders of Science as we celebrate Science Week. Events to celebrate this week included a visitation of scientist (and parent) Mr Stephen Van Der Velden who exposed all to the concept of wind tunnels. There were Chemistry shows, Drone competitions, Physics, Robotics, Lego and STEAM activities, a Science Fair, Year 9 Science Performance and we wait in anticipation of a Rocket Launch when weather permits. Congratulations to staff and students who together made Science Week such a success.
Reflections on Book Week
I read with interest this week some of the student reflections on our recent college Book Week. Students were asked to complete the following sentence: 'Reading is My Secret Power Because…….', the following statements were made:
" Reading could be my super power because it allows me to zone out of the real world and into the book. It allows me to use my imagination and creativity so that I can go on different adventures with many different characters. I get to feel what the characters in the book feel and experience what they experience. I learn so much by reading." Paige
"Reading could be my secret power because it helps me to see new worlds from other peoples' perspectives and situations." Michael
"Being a Reader means I am more likely to learn something new. I am likely to be more cultural and reading a book helps me to be less stressed. Reading expands my vocabulary and also helps me to empathise with others. I will get a better career if I keep reading." Vanessa
Reading can be my superpower because it helps with your writing (essays and reports). You can also improve your knowledge of words, your inference and your imagination." Neil
"Reading helps my knowledge just as Dr. Suess said for his famous quote. Having the ability to read and learn from books is amazing, it increases my imagination as well as my knowledge. I love reading." Rhianna
"Reading is the key to the door of imagination. Reading opens opportunities and expands your thought process. Reading is a secret power that everyone has and everyone should unlock." Medwin
"1. You can read super-duper fast, allowing you to learn faster. 2. IT allows your to read ANYTHING! encrypted messages, different languages and everything else not understood by a normal person" Zealandia
"Reading is the special power of ours that lets us gain knowledge and communicate with others" Cohwen
My statement to sit alongside those articulated by students is: “Reading is a superpower for all who engage with it as the skill of reading enables students to maximise learning progression”.
High Achievers
Congratulations to Alana Wilkins who recently achieved outstanding results in the recent National Aerobics Championships: 10th placing as a solo. Alana’s trio team won the national championship. Well Done Alana.
Enjoy the week ahead.
