JESUS AS A MODEL TEACHER
Jesus was and is the greatest teacher the world has ever seen. His understanding of the things of this world was beyond all Human understanding. He was and continues to be, recognised as a model teacher. He knew his content, could relate easily to people, used a variety of teaching methods and he practiced what he taught. Good content and appropriate methods by themselves are not enough. What is needed is the example of a godly teacher whose life and practice shows the students how God wants them to live. In this way they can grow like Jesus did “in wisdom and stature and in favour with God and Men” (Luke 2:52)
Teachers play a key role in developing a Christian learning community. As leaders, they provide the instructional and learning strategies, evaluate the students and more importantly provide a model for the students. A Christian school needs to pay very serious attention to its choice of teachers since the students will tend to reflect the character, values and worldview of their teachers (Luke 6:40). This chapter will look at Jesus is the best model or master teacher.
Teachers need to be aware that while Jesus is the best model any Christian could have, they should not expect to be able to simply copy his instructional methods. This is because he lived in a very different place and at a very different time in history and he taught and disciple adults rather than children...
