Classroom News - Year 1

What's happening in Year 1

For literacy Year 1 have been very busy learning about homophones, adjectives, and trigraphs in class. Our Big Write is off to a great start with students writing a different narrative each Friday. Talk homework is sent home with the children each Thursday along with their Home Readers. We encourage the children to discuss with their family members and share ideas on what they can write to make their writing exciting. We thank you and appreciate all that you do to help with your children's learning.

In History, students have had the opportunity to explore past and present toys and games such as; pick up sticks, elastics, yo-yos, etc.

We have also had Mr Jay Stone working with us in PE. Students have had a great time trying out high jump and shot put.

Year One performed in the choir with Year Two yesterday at the New England Eisteddford at Lazenby Hall. We were very proud of the student's performance and the way they represented St Mary's throughout our morning excursion. A big thank you to all those parents who were able to come along and support us. A special mention and thank you is sent out to Ms Sara McNeal who works tirelessly to have our students ready to perform on the stage, we couldn't do it without her dedication.

Autumn Artworks

Last week year One spent time gathering the beautiful autumn leaves that are scattered through the playground. They then used these to create works of art.

Responsible Pet Program

We were involved in the Responsible Pet program where we had a couple of visitors come to our school and talk to us how to approach pets and take care of them.
