National Simultaneous Storytime
Today our school participated in the NSS 2019. National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centers, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 19th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
By facilitating NSS at St Mary’s we aim to:
- promote the value of reading and literacy,
- promote the value and fun of books,
- promote an Australian writer and publisher.
The book we shared today was Alpacas with Maracas by Matt Cosgrove. The children enjoyed being read to by another staff member at our school.
Book Week 2019
Book Week this year will be celebrated in Week 5 next term, from 18th-23rd of August. This year we have a dress up parade which will take place on Tuesday 20th August. The theme this year is “Reading is My Secret Power” so you have plenty of time to start planning your costume. Just a reminder that children wear school uniform on the day and change into their costume for the parade so it’s a good idea to keep costumes simple. Also no make-up or coloured hair spray.
Premiers Reading Challenge
Congratulations to the following students who have already completed the PRC for this year:
