We are learning to use the Cartesian plane which can be used to help us draw and read maps.

HOW TO MAKE A CARTESIAN PLANE

In a Cartesian plane there is a X AXIS and the Y AXIS.

On a Cartesian plane there should be  a number every centimetre. On the right side of the x axis you put 1,2,3,4,5, and so on BUT on the left side you put -1,-2,-3,-4,-5 and so on then on the line that goes up (y axis), on the top you put 1,2,3,4,5 and so on and on the bottom you put-1,-2,-3,-4,-5 and so on. All of these numbers start at the point of origin which has the coordinates 0,0.

In Maths, we are learning about Cartesian planes. A Cartesian plane is like a cross but with numbers on it. The line that goes across is called the x axis. the line that goes up and down is called the Y axis.

On the left side of the x axis are the negative numbers and at the bottom of the Y axis are also negative numbers. The numbers on the right side of the x axis are positive numbers. And on the top of the Y axis are also the positive numbers. You write the coordinates as two numbers. The first number tells you the location along the x axis and the second number the location along y axis.

These two boys have attempted to explain how we construct and use a Cartesian plane.

If you see any Year 6 students around ask them about Cartesian planes, prime numbers or composite numbers and they should be able to teach you a thing or two about what they have learnt.

Confirmation

On Tuesday, 24 Year 6 students attended their Confirmation retreat day which began with a Parish Mass led by Bishop Kennedy. Students then spent time discussing what it means to be confirmed into the Catholic faith with Bishop Kennedy before reflecting on the example set by the saint whose name they will be taking. In the afternoon, parishioners came to talk to our students about their faith journeys and what it meant to them to be confirmed.

This Sunday at the 10 o'clock Family Mass you will be able to see our students making their Confirmation and I'm sure they would be delighted to see as many people from the school community there to see them as possible.

Grip Leadership

On the 8th of May, the majority of Year 6 headed to the Ex-Serviceman's Club to attend the Grip Leadership Conference with students from all over the region. Students participated in a range of tasks to develop their leadership and social skills with a focus on being inclusive and considering the needs of others.
