STATE ATHLETICS

On Friday 17 October, twelve students represented the school, Kingston Division and the Southern Metropolitan Region at the School Sport Victoria State Athletic Finals.

It was perfect conditions for having success, and succeed we did, with four gold medals and two new records being set.

The day was off to an excellent start with Jesse Scholz winning the 14 Years Boys 100m hurdles, equaling the state record.  Ellie Drenth then ran well to come 5th in the state at the 16 Years Girls 100m hurdles.  The next event saw Lucas Thompson not only beat his personal best for high jump by 7cm, but also beat the state record by 14cm, setting a new state record and winning the competition with a height of 1.84m.  Matt Wilkins was the next student to grace the podium by placing 2nd in the 16 Years Boys Shot Put, an impressive result against tough competition.  We then moved into the distance running with four students competing in the 1500m.  Joshua Kah came in 5th in the 14 Years Boys event, Sophie Highnam was 4th in the 15 Years Girls, Seika Chen came 8th in the 18-20 Years Girls and Nick Parkinson came 5th in the 18-20 Years Boys event.

The finale of the day was the 12-13 Years and 14 Years Boy’s Relay Races.  Both teams ran exceptionally well, the 12-13 Years Boys came in 3rd (Jackson Hannah, Xavier Verdnik, Lachlan Zachestand Lucas Thompson), whilst the 14 Years Boys set a new state record for the second year running once again retaining their state title (Eli Tahana, Joseph Inglis, Joshua Kahand Jesse Scholz).

An incredible day of Athletics, where all athletes were proud representatives of the school, achieving some amazing results.  A big congratulations to all twelve of you who qualified to compete!
