NO BOARD STUDENTS JUST MATES CHECKING!

Chess Club has been running Wednesday lunchtimes in A3 for many months now. Students are encouraged to bring their lunch and mates along to play chess!  Chess Club welcomed a special guest last week on 15 October.  David from Chess Kids - Ormond came along and demonstrated a live re-enactment of the most famous chess game ever played, Kasparov vs Deep Blue (the computer). It was an incredible experience and very enlightening.

Ms Brown, Ms Bainbridge and Ms Polan, Chess Club regulars, are hoping to expand Chess Club next year and encourage students to participate in inter school chess competitions.  Chess Club will continue to run throughout Term 4.

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY EXCURSION

On Thursday 23 November, many eager Design Technology students made the trek to the city to immerse themselves in the life and work of French Fashion Designer, Jean Paul Gaultier.  Soon after arriving at the National Gallery of Victoria we were given a special talk about Gaultier’s life and an explanation of what we were about to see.

After a quick lunch break we finally entered the exhibition. Jaws dropped and eyes widened as we were met by the most beautiful creations presented in the most intriguing and unique way. Not only were the garments simply astounding but the mannequins winked, blinked and smiled at us, all resembling twelve different people.  Some of them, including Jean Paul Gaultier, talked in French!

As we moved deeper and deeper into the exhibition we were greeted by a plethora of new designs and themes.  We saw his beautiful apparel ranging from corsets made entirely from pink satin ribbon to ball gowns plastered with the Union Jack partnered with metre-long mohawks.  Each section of the exhibition was as if we were entering another realm of his mind and you felt like you were walking through his world.  Each and every garment was awesome, every single one hand made by a team of expert seamstress.

Jean Paul Gaultier is one of the most influential designers of all time and at only 62 years of age he is still going strong.  It was amazing to have an opportunity to experience and see, face-to-face, clothes that have inspired millions.  I was awestruck at the fantastic displays and clothes.  It was so inspirational and awe-inspiring that one man created so many beautiful and completely original garments.

Thank you to Ms Roden and Ms Kuriata for making this wonderful experience happen.  It was simply amazing.
