VCE & AMEB PERFORMANCE EXAMS

Great things are happening in the Music Department at the moment.  VCE and AMEB performance exams have started and students have prepared well for these.  Well done to all students undertaking these exams.  Students who are yet to complete their performance exams are reminded to keep practicing each and every day.

THE BIG BAND BASH

The Big Band Bash was held on Monday 20 October and was an outstanding success.  There were many costumed people present, and it was difficult to move past Mr Dmitry Serebrianik dressed as Boy George.  All ensembles played to a very high level and demonstrated their growing musicianship.  Thank you to all parents and friends who attended and to the music staff who helped create a great evening.

EUROPEAN TOUR ORCHESTRA

The final performance of the European Tour Orchestra before departing for Iceland and England took place in the Alan Lawrence Theatre on the evening of Sunday 26 October. It was an opportunity for parents to hear the new works in the performance program that will be presented on tour.  A highlight of the concert was our first performance of "Reclaiming the Spirit" by Australian Composer, Sarah Hopkins.  This haunting work features novel and extended performance techniques from the orchestra to evoke an atmosphere of an Australian bush setting and will be a captivating experience for the international audiences.  We wish those staff and students participating in the tour a safe and exciting trip and look forward to hearing of their adventures when they return.

VARIOUS PERFORMANCES

Well done to both the Ovenden band and the Symphonic Wind band for their Primary school performances this week.    Both bands were extremely well received at the primary schools they attended.  A very big thank you to the students in the Ovenden band who managed to make it through the heavy rain storms for their tour on Monday 27 October.  Wednesday 29 October proved to be better weather for touring for the Symphonic Wind band.  Thank you to the music teachers Ms Tracy Videon, Ms Su Rogerson, Mr Dmitry Serebrianik and Mr Martin West for the organization and attendance of these days which allow the students great performance opportunities.

DATES TO REMEMBER

The Year 10 Music Performance night is on Thursday 13 November at 7:30pm in the Lecture Theatre.  The students from the Year 10 Performance class would love to see as many friends and family there as possible.  It should be a great celebration of the years work by this class.

The Junior Concert will be held on Wednesday 3 December at 7:00pm in the School Hall. We are looking forward to celebrating the end of the music calendar with all staff, students and parents on this evening.  With the busy social season fast approaching, we ask all performing students to keep this evening free to help celebrate the end of the year.
