SCHOOL CROSSING CLOSURE

LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL CROSSING

Unfortunately this coming week will be our last week of having a supervised crossing on Eyre Street. The most upsetting part about this, is that it will be the last week we will see our beautiful Michelle helping us cross the road safely.

We will miss Michelle first thing in the morning putting a smile on our faces and reminding us to have a great day and again at the end of the day when she asks us how our day was, please make sure on Friday you make her feel loved and hopefully we will see her back soon.

We would like to remind all our families not to do U-Turns directly in front of the school. Not only is it illegal, it is also very dangerous and will be even more so when our

crossing is unsupervised.

Thank you all so much for the support you have given regarding the ‘decommissioning of our Eyre St crossing”. Although we have been given an additional 4 weeks of supervised crossing, we have not been guaranteed an ongoing service. Please use the crossing each morning and night possible, to show the Shire of Campaspe the demand remains.

We do know they will be ‘counting’ the students crossing morning and night, as well as the cars that go through the crossing, so again I strongly encourage all families to use the crossings if at all possible.

From week 5, the crossing will NOT BE SUPERVISED and staff at school will only be putting the flags out before and after school.  This will still be the safest place to cross the road. Traffic will still be required to stop if a student is at the crossing.  As we educate the students, we will need all our drivers to be even more vigilant around the crossing. Please keep correspondence going to the Shire of Campaspe.  We want the crossing to be funded after the new count!

To help us out, please do not do a u turn in front of the school, if necessary pass through the school crossing and do the turn in a less hectic part of the road.

Stop, Look, Listen, Think

Follow the safe road crossing procedure – STOP, LOOK, LISTEN and THINK.

  • STOP one step back from the kerb or shoulder of the road if there is no footpath.
  • LOOK in all directions for approaching traffic.
  • LISTEN in all directions for approaching traffic.
  • THINK about whether it is safe to cross the road – when the road is clear or all traffic has stopped.

When crossing, walk straight across the road. Keep LOOKING and LISTENING for traffic while crossing.
