Urrbrae Wetlands Excursion

Urrbrae Wetlands is a school as well as a place where other schools can go to for excursions. They show how natural, living things can clean the algae and fungi from the water in the river. We got to use microscopes to look closely at little bugs that live in the wetlands. We would strongly recommend it for other classes and would go back again. Elsa (F12)

Urrbrae Wetlands was a fun experience with learning about microorganisms and trying to catch the macro aquatic invertebrates. We learnt many things including the stormwater pipe and how all the water washed into the wetlands. We enjoyed using the microscopes to catch the little creatures. Everyone had fun learning about the wetlands. Luca (F12)

Adelaide Desalination Plant Excursion

The desalination plant is a very interesting experience. While you are at the plant you learn how they take salt water from the ocean and turn it into drinking water. The Desalination plant gives you a clear and detailed explanation on how to make dirty water drinkable. The plant is a truly exceptional place that helps people all around South Australia every day. We all enjoyed the tour around the plant, and learning all about what they do there. Hannah & Tayla (F12)

Cultural Awareness

The African cultural workshop was really interesting because we got to learn about African traditions. Our classes got to experience different activities such as drumming and dancing. We got to learn an African chicken dance and the drumming beats to the dance. We got split into two groups, one was doing the dancing while the other group was doing the drumming beats with Djembe drums. Djembe drums are a common drum used in Western Africa. Overall, the African cultural experience was a great way for our classes to learn about African culture and traditions. Emi (F13)

Today we had a visit from “Rhythm Culture” an African Dance company because we have been learning about the different cultures at our school. It was a fun experience because we learnt how to dance and play the Djembe drums. We learnt a type of chicken dance that was good exercise and had a laugh.   Ava & Olivia (F12)

The African dancing was very fun and required your listening skills to follow instructions and dance moves. It was cool how they had made their own version of the chicken dance and we were lucky enough for them to teach us and perform. After that all of us switched positions and my group learnt the drums. We had to learn the rhythm of the dance and then we joined and played the chicken dance.  Declan (F11)

On the 27th of July, Lockleys North Primary School got the chance to participate in an African drumming and dancing class. LNPS students learnt ‘The Chicken Dance’ and the drumming to go with it. This class was a very educational experience since we got to learn more about the traditions and ways of Africa. All students, staff and teachers really enjoyed this event due to how fun and hands on it was and wish to do it again in the upcoming years. D'Arcie (F15)

Bollywood dancing

On the 5th of August fisher students got the chance to participate in a Bollywood dancing class. This class was a lot of fun because we got to dress in traditional Bollywood dance outfits. Indi (F12) I found the dancing fun because we got to learn about another culture and dress up. Milli (F12)

The dance class was funny and interesting because we learnt that every year in Adelaide there is  a Bollywood dance during October. Kingston (F13) I thought the dancing was fun because I have never done Bollywood dancing before. Seth  (F13)

World of Maths

A man named Gary hosted this World of Maths experience. It was a good experience because we got to learn some new things about maths. Some of the maths areas were easy and some were complicated. There were over 20 areas of maths games, some were with equations. One of the games was that you had to put a ball down a pipe and see how fast it went. We had to record the answers we got on a little piece of paper. Overall it was a very good experience! Stephan (F12)

World of maths is a company that allows kids to work together and play maths games. They come to your school and set up the games. You get put into groups and solve questions. In world of maths you get to solve math tasks that involve addition, multiplication, division and subtraction. In world of maths you get to do a lot of problem solving questions and also all the tasks you do are fun. I would rate world of maths  4/5 because you don’t always get every math activity done. Kindness Lunchtime Workshops

During Semester 1, F10 and 11 were inquiring into how can we spread the message of kindness with our community? Students created their own action plans, many of which were put into action with great success. Allezara, Kristen, Sienna and Charlee (along with an army of helpers) ran weekly rock painting sessions at lunch time - Kindness Rocks!

Year 7 Camp - Yorke Peninsula

Camp was an exciting experience that I would recommend for all of the future year 7’s to go on. This camp teaches you new fun experiences like how to surf and snorkelling. The food was amazing and it was fun climbing to the rock pools and jumping into them!

Layla (F14)

Camp was amazing and I would recommend it to the future year 7's. Camp taught us new skills such as how to set up a tent and most of all we got to know our peers better. The experiences were so fun, it was great to learn how to surf and snorkel. It was an experience I won't forget.

Kaitlin (F15)

Camp was a great experience for me and I would definitely recommend it to the future year 7's. This camp had taught us how to put up a tent and to know what it was like to camp outdoors. It was so fun! We went surfing and snorkelling and the best part was climbing to the rock pools and jumping in them-it was awesome.
