Capital works project update

It’s hard to believe that the start of our building works is just around the corner. With only a few weeks left until renovations commence, we are on track to vacate Napier St. The grade 5/6s have now moved into their new classroom in the George St building. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to move other belongings across and fully vacate Napier St by the start of April. Big Childcare will continue to run on Napier St until then.

COVID safe reminders – masks for grade 3-6 students and staff

As hospitalisation rates decline and third dose vaccination rates increase, several sensible changes to pandemic orders and public health recommendations in Victoria will come into effect at 11:59pm tonight, Friday 25 February.

Public health recommendations for Victorians to work and study from home will be removed, while masks will no longer be required in most indoor settings.

Masks will only be required indoors in particular circumstances unless an exemption applies.

In schools, mask rules remain for students in grades 3-6 and staff. You can help your child by making sure that they have a clean, well fitted mask to wear at school and a spare just in case.

The school's twice weekly rapid antigen testing will continue until the end of the term.

Parent group

All parents are invited to attend a weekly meeting every Monday at 9am in the Napier Hall with Badria Mustafa, our School Community Liaison Officer. This is an opportunity to meet other parents and share important school information.

Student health and wellbeing

We have noticed that some children are coming to school with symptoms of various illnesses that are not COVID related. We ask that parents and carers are mindful of ensuring that children are well enough to attend school before coming in the morning.

Below is a link to a helpful document from Health Direct that outlines common childhood infections and whether or not child should be attending school. https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/school-exclusion-periods

Staffing update

Sebastian Francese has worked in the School Chaplaincy role at Fitzroy PS for the last two years and recently transitioned into a new role. We wish him the very best in his future endeavours and are very appreciative of the support he provided to families, especially throughout lockdowns. A new School Chaplain will be announced in the coming weeks.
