Music

Year 7

Year 7 music are putting their keyboard skills into practice by performing melodies with basslines and chords to “See You Again” and other popular song melodies. Students have enjoyed learning about note values through performance, composition and listening activities throughout the term.

Year 8

Year 8 music is busy completing a Soundtrap composition task on the song “Don’t Stop Believin”. This task is broken up into 6 sound files. Students need to put the files into soundtrap to make their own song structure. This includes an Intro, Verse and Chorus. Students then use various loops including beats to make their own version of “Don’t Stop Believin”. We look forward to hearing the creative arrangements from Year 8 Music classes.

Year 9

Year 9 music have been learning about the concepts of music through Australian Music repertoire and class ensemble performances of some ‘80s hit songs including: Electric Blue by Icehouse, Down Under by Men at Work and You’re the Voice by John Farnham. Students have performed arrangements of the songs and are learning to develop software composition skills using Sibelius.

Year 10

Year 10 have been busy jamming lately on such songs as “Life Is A Highway” (Rascal Flatts) and “How To Save A Life” (The Fray). Most students in Year 10 are involved in the Musical and are very busy practicing. They are also working on a solo based assessment task to finish Term 1 with. It will be great to hear what you come up with!

Year 11

Music students have been learning about Power Ballads through the topic: Rock Music for Small Ensembles.

Students have created and performed arrangements of Power Ballads and are now creating a Composition based on arranging You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi, into a power ballad using Sibleius software.

Hamilton Excursion

In Week 5, Year 10 and 12 Music Students were able to travel at last to see “Hamilton” the musical at the Lyric theater in Sydney. After much COVID rescheduling, students were excited to finally see various characters such as Alexander Hamilton, Eliza Hamilton, Aaron Burr and Thomas Jefferson in the flesh.

After analyzing the music in class, students had many favorite songs that they were finally able to hear. King George III with “You’ll Be Back”, was a definite highlight! Mr and Mrs Saxon would like to thank Mr Murphy and Mr Buik for driving everyone on the bus. This was much appreciated!
