VICE PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Ben Hawthorn

Let me start by saying how wonderful it is to be back at Echuca East. For those who don’t know me, my name is Ben Hawthorn and I will be the Acting Assistant Principal for Term 1. Getting to reacquaint myself with the East community over the past month has been the highlight of my term and as we slowly transition back to some kind of normality, I look forward to meeting more of our East families.

On Monday, Mr Holmfield conducted our annual school swimming carnival at the Moama Pool. As our house banners flew proudly in the sunshine, our students gave it their very all in the pool. Swimming the length of the pool is not something many of our students do on a regular basis and can be a daunting prospect for some. To see so many our students there on the day having a go and scoring points for their team was fantastic. I think the only thing that may have matched some of these efforts were the efforts on the sideline, with all students cheering on their teammates as proud Easties do. While days like this are about much more than winning and losing, there does need to be a winner with Hume snatching victory from the all-conquering Hovell. Hovell did however manage a victory on the day taking out the relays. As always we thank Mr Holmfield for the power of work he puts into these events.

As many of you will be well aware of, after a long time of fundraising and campaigning the Echuca East running track was built around the oval during the summer holidays. On Tuesday morning we conducted our very first lap club. It was great to see so many students taking the opportunity to run, walk and skip their way around our track in the beautiful morning air. Lap club will be held each morning from 8.30 and when the guidelines allow, we look forward to having our East families join in the fitness fun. I’m not sure I can think of a better way to start our school day.

Monday is sure to be a hit here at East as we hold our Summer Send Off celebration day. It will be a casual dress day with all students encouraged to wear their favourite summer outfit. The day is a SunSmart event so please ensue your child wears suitable clothing and enclosed shoes or sandals. Please do not wear thongs on the day. Miss Burke has an office full of prizes to give away and there will be Zooper Doopers for all. It’s definitely a day no one will want to miss and I look forward seeing each and every Eastie here for a massive day of fun.

Once again, I thank everyone within our Echuca East community for making me feel so welcome back here at East. Please remember I can be contacted at school each day so don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss your child’s learning in any way.
