Pastoral Care & Wellbeing

Our students continue to be involved in a number of activities both within the College and outside of it in the local community. Below is an overview of just some of what has occurred in the past fortnight. We look forward to the upcoming Leadership days as well as the Graduation Ceremony of the Committee 4 Wagga Young Leaders program in the coming week. Please take note of the uniform announcement below.
WAGGA CITY COUNCIL ENGAGES YOUTH - MAYORAL BREAKFAST
Last Friday, Tom and I were invited to attend a breakfast with our Mayor, Mr Greg Conkey and other school captains in Wagga, focusing on the youth of the community. The event was a follow up from our first meeting which took place late last year. Many interesting points were addressed and feedback was given to the council members in the attempt to make our teens feel involved as well as providing youth entertainment in the community. Suggestions were made for more musical functions, council's approval on the Bomen Entertainment Complex, improvement of the Illuminate festival, to make travel around Wagga more accessible for teens, and introduce the Mayor to schools and explain the roles in council to inform youth of the different tasks that take place within local government. All these ideas were taken on board and it will be exciting to see progress around Wagga when it all comes to life.

RIVERINA YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FORUM
Congratulations to the following Year 10 students who attended the Riverina Youth Mental Health Forum on Tuesday 6 June:
Mailee Gaynor
Judith Mazambo
Liam Mack
Amy Dunstall
Matilda Versteeg
Kyle Pangello
Mackenzie Willis
Sara Langfield
Simon Templeton
The aim of the Forum was to assist in bringing about some positive change in our community. Students talked about how we can make some positive change together for everyone’s wellbeing at school, at home and in the community. The students began building an Action Plan to develop positive activities to reduce the stigma and build awareness around Mental Health in our own College. They discussed some of the issues facing young people today and looked at some solutions and also heard from guest speakers who spoke about their experiences with Mental Health and how it impacts on their day to day life.
PRESENTATION BY LIQUOR ACCORD/LICENSED VENUES & LOCAL POLICE TO YEARS 10-12 STUDENTS
On Tuesday Police Youth Liaison Officer Senior Constable Troy Fisher spoke with our senior students about the impacts of Drugs and Alcohol in our community. Troy shared current data and recent changes to laws surrounding drugs and alcohol. He guided students through the information to consider when making decisions surrounding drugs and alcohol. We encourage you to continue the conversation surrounding this topic with your children at home.
