Year 10 Science with Miss Tonkin
Glowing Year 10 - Science Self Select
Year 10 have been investigating “Chemical World” this term. This lesson students learnt about the Conservation of Mass and that matter cannot be created nor destroyed. In this instance, students weighed a glow stick and recorded the initial weight, and again after cracking the glow stick, they recorded the final weight. Students concluded that the mass stayed the same though out this chemical reaction and that the products must always equal the reactants.

Japanese - 日本語
Year 7 has made an excellent start to Japanese and can already introduce themselves with confidence. They recently put these skills to use in our virtual exchange with Higashi Junior High from Ogaki, Japan. Students loved finding similarities between themselves and the Japanese students. We look forward to using our Japanese skills with native speakers in the future!
Music
Music has had a very busy start to 2022, especially with the lifting of COVID restrictions!
Resilience Art Program
Evangeline, Tengis Meiklejohn, and Jack Ryan were selected for the DET’s Resilience Art Program which saw them spend two nights in Sydney exploring a variety of arts activities. A highlight of the tour was seeing ‘Hamilton’ and meeting members of the cast for a discussion on working in Musical Theatre and the Arts. Students gained a great deal from the experience and have shared what they learnt on their return to school.
Rotary Performance – Grace Parry
Grace Parry performed at the Molong Rotary launch of ‘Self-Guided Walks around Molong’. Grace was fortunate enough to be sponsored by Molong Rotary in the last 12 months to receive vocal tuition. It was an excellent opportunity for Grace to give back to a group that has supported her so well. A big thank you to all the support from Molong Rotary.
Creative Casting Call Competition
A big congratulations to Jack Ryan from Year 10 who entered his personal composition into the DET’s Creative Casting Call Competition. Jack’s music was selected to be used as the Creative Casting Team’s podcast music in 2022. In addition, Jack also was awarded funding that will help to support the school’s Music program. Congratulations, Jack!
Army Band Concert
19 elective Music students travelled to Orange to see the Australian Army Band perform at the Orange Regional Conservatorium. It was a brilliant opportunity for students to see a live concert band and be inspired about what can be achieved by a professional ensemble. Thanks again to Molong Rotary who assisted in transport costs for the day.
COVID ILSP Literacy Tutoring Word Play with Mrs Sandra Logan
Our small group tutoring in Literacy is well under way with Years 8, 9 and 10 all focusing on improving their vocabulary and comprehension skills. This will help students to become more confident readers across all learning areas and have a positive impact on their progress in all subjects.
Today, Year 10 students had some fun whilst also learning about the morphology of words, or how words are structured. They had to build words using colour coded base words, Greek and Latin root words, prefixes, and suffixes.
Students enjoyed this hands-on activity and learnt the origins of words such as omniscient and autobiographical.
