Eureka Swimming Carnival
The Eureka Swimming Carnival took place on Tuesday 1st March. Many of our students headed to Ballarat to compete, and despite the wet and windy weather conditions, displayed incredible effort, bringing home some wins for Beaufort Secondary College. Year 7 student, Evalyn Hayward, was awarded the 13-year-old Age Group Champion on the day, receiving a whopping 48 points. Congratulations, Evalyn!
Headspace Workshops
This week at Beaufort Secondary College, our students have been blessed to be involved in workshops from Headspace. Headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation in Australia that provides 12-25 year-olds with early intervention mental health services.
Each year, Headspace provide support for mental and physical health to thousands of young people across the country. They provide online and phone counselling services, vocational services and presence within schools.
Our Year 10, 11 and 12 students completed a workshop on self-care, where they explored strategies for looking after their physical and mental health; crucial for feeling positive during their senior years. Our Year 7, 8 and 9 students completed a different workshop that focused on looking out for friends. Thank you to Natalie from Headspace for providing our students with such an informative and purposeful experience.
Artworks by our Junior Students
In our gallery at Beaufort Secondary College, we are currently displaying artworks produced by our Year 7 and 8 Art students, and our Year 8 Visual Communication Design students.
- Mrs McGregor's Year 7 Art class has been studying the Aboriginal art styles of Papunya, Wandjina and X Ray and created artworks responding to three different styles.
- Miss Conroy's Year 8 Art class has created styles of drawings known as Zentangle Art, using fine liner and metallic markers to develop creative and abstract patterns.
- Miss Shortal's Year 8 VCD students have designed their own gift wrap. They used technical drawing instruments and rendering techniques when developing their design, before it was transferred onto photoshop to be displayed.
See below the displayed artworks from Year 7 and 8 Art, and the gift wrap designs by three Year 8 VCD students.
New Books in the Library
The library has a number of new books on offer for borrowing. The Library is still open every Recess and Lunch for our students to borrow books. See below the amazing new selection of novels!
Support our Hands on Learning Program Through Grill'd Local Matters
A reminder to please head down to the Grill'd Restaurant in Ballarat this March!
The Grill'd Local Matters initiative that provides support to groups, organisations and causes that serve their local communities, is supporting our Hands on Learning program at Beaufort Secondary College this month.
In order for the Hands On Learning program to receive a donation of $300, they need to receive the most bottle cap tokens at Grill'd Ballarat by 31st March. The $300 donation will be used towards resources, equipment and materials for our Hands on Learning students.
So far, our Hands on Learning program has collected the most tokens! For the lead to continue, we need your help in filling the jar even higher. To receive a bottle cap token to place in the Hands on Learning jar, you must buy a burger at the restaurant.
Many of our staff members at Beaufort Secondary College have already enjoyed meals at Grill'd Ballarat and received tokens to place in the Hands on Learning jar. They have reported that Grill'd staff were happy to oblige when they asked for extra tokens!
Grill'd Ballarat is location at 37 Sturt Street, Ballarat Central.
Online orders for pickup are available on the Grill'd website, Menulog and Deliveroo.
