WELFARE - Kids Hope

The Kids Hope Program began in the last week of August at Kalinda. Seven students have been nominated by the staff and are having a wonderful time participating. The students spend one hour a week with a volunteer mentor.

The students enjoyed a lovely morning tea put on by the mentors, where they met their mentor for the first time.

We would like to welcome the volunteer mentors to Kalinda. We very much appreciate the time they are giving to spend with our students.

Ringwood North District Athletics

The students who performed very well at the Kalinda House Athletics Carnival were provided a special invitation to compete in the Ringwood North District Athletics. This competition was held last Tuesday, on the 3rd of September.

Our athletics team were AMAZING, they all tried their absolute best, with some even achieving their personal best records for particular athletic events. Not only did our athletes perform really well, they also continually supported and cheered each other on across the day. Kalinda Primary School finished in sixth place out of nine schools for both track and field which is a great effort.

Congratulations to the following students:

  • Harry C for finishing 1st in Shot Put
  • Ava J for finishing 2nd in 1500m
  • Callum S for finishing 1st in 1500m
  • Jemma W for finishing 1st in high jump and shot put
  • Elise M for finishing 1st in discus
  • Chelsea Q for finishing 1st in 100m and 200m

These students now progress through to the next level, in which they will compete against the best athletes in the Maroondah/Manningham Division. GOOD LUCK!

Thank-you to Lyn W, Sharron N and Maddy S who coordinated the girls shot put on the day. Also thank-you to Karen K and Lochie A for assisting on the day and thank-you to the parents who attended and showed their support.

Grade 3/4 HOOP TIME

Congratulations to the Grade 3/4 students who were selected to represent Kalinda Primary School at the recent Hoop Time competition.

It was great a day, filled with great skill and excellent team work. The competition was at a really high level, including many highly competitive teams. All our teams were pushed to their limits, and did really well to stay positive and try their absolute hardest.

A special congratulations to the All Star Boys team who progressed through to regionals, which will be held next term. We wish them all the best moving forward.

Thank-you to all teachers and parents who assisted on the day with supervision, coaching and scoring.

Please note if your child missed out on the Hoop Time experience they will be provided a special invitation to participate in a 2 hour basketball clinic run by Warrick Giddey from Melbourne United. This will be held at school on Friday the 13th of September.

Grade 5/6 HOOP TIME

Selected Grade 5/6 students participated in the Bulla Hoop Time Competition on Wednesday the 11th of September.

All teams played really well together on the day, their skills and their ability to work together effectively as a team really improved from their first match to their last match played. The students showed really great sportsmanship, as they cheered each other on and showed great respect towards their opposition and referees. The students also showed great leadership skills, in which they assisted with coaching, providing their peers with valuable advice on ways to be more successful on court.

A very big thank-you to all the parents and Kalinda staff who assisted on the day with either student supervision, scoring and coaching. Your help is very much appreciated by the staff and students alike.
