School Counsellor

Hello Parents and Carers!

What a busy and fun term it has been for me at Kalinda Primary!

This fortnight I am attaching an article about children’s anxiety: http://spokesmanreview.wa.app.newsmemory.com/publink.php?shareid=0220555e4

There are LOTS of articles and resources online about anxiety, which manifests in many different ways: sore tummies, avoiding events, trouble getting to sleep and so on.

Anxiety is tricky to recognise when it has so many disguises. We all have anxiety from time to time, throughout childhood and adulthood.

Chances are, as adults, you have lots of healthy strategies and ideas to manage your anxiety and you can share these with your kids if you see that they are struggling with a bad case of nerves.

I hope you all enjoy the break over the Spring holidays. I will be having a look at my garden and try to get onto the weeding – my favourite mindfulness activity!

Next term, I hope to be talking with lots of different children about how they nurture their mental health through self-care, mindfulness and brain breaks. There are lots of ways to take care of yourself….pat your dog slowly, bake a new cake recipe, jump on the trampoline, lie in the grass…it doesn’t feel like it but all these activities are food for your soul.

Until next time,

Emily Bieber, School Counsellor.
