Principal's Message

A Message from the Principal

Welcome to our our NEW newsletter format

Over the past few months we have been considering alternative platforms for our newsletter, to make it more user-friendly for our parents, especially parents accessing the newsletter via their phone. We hope you find this new format easier to read and navigate. We would be happy to receive your feedback over the coming weeks and months.

Wellbeing Week

Well, it has been another busy yet productive term of learning here at COHR. Having read all the reports I am conscious of all the hard work and commitment the children have put in over the course of the term. I am very proud of them all.

To end the term we have enjoyed a week where we have focused on our wellbeing; physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. The children have enjoyed the variety of wellbeing activities offered to them by their teachers. While the structure of the days has been different this week there continued to be tremendous learning about ourselves and others.

I encourage you to read the report from our Faith Leaders, Sofia and Vinay, regarding our fundraising day yesterday as part of our Wellbeing Week activities.

First Eucharist

The Sacrament of First Eucharist was celebrated at two masses last Sunday with 36 children receiving Holy Communion for the first time. This was a special time for these children as they joined the church community in sharing this special meal together.

I would like to express my gratitude to our Year 3/4 teachers for preparing these children to receive this Sacrament with special thanks to Karen Gosling for  assisting with the coordination of the program and liturgies.

Grandparents and Special Friend's Day

On Friday 26th July we will be holding a day to acknowledge our Grandparents and Special Friends. Activities will take place between 11:00am -1:00pm and will include a liturgy in the church, classroom visits and a light lunch in the hall. Please pass this date onto relatives and special friends. They are most welcome to join us.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Alessandro Paine (Year 2) who has achieved a recent milestone with Scouts Australia. Alessandro, 9th Oakleigh Cub Pack, has earned the Joey Scout Promise Challenge. To attain the top award in each of the five sections of scouting reflects initiative in tackling this challenge, sustained over many months and years, plus self-discipline, teamwork and leadership. Only a small percentage of scouts reach this level. Well done Alessandro!

A Visit To the Kimberleys

I draw your attention to Michella Pradel's article in this newsletter. Michella is currently on leave, working and visiting a remote community school in Balgo Hills in the far north-west of Australia. Michella is staying with John and Elisha Killeen. John worked at our school for 8 years and the family are a part of our school community (currently on a life adventure!)

2018 Annual Report To The School Community

The 2018 Annual Report to the School Community has now been uploaded to the school website. This report is a compliance document and outlines achievements of the 2018 academic year.

COHR Swimming Program for 2019

When:     Monday 9 Sept - Thursday 19 Sept

Where:    Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre

Who:       All students from Prep to Year 6

A reminder that the school holidays are a good opportunity to encourage your child to practise changing their clothes independently. When we commence swimming lessons at the end of next term we aim for all students to dress/undress themselves and to look after their swimming items independently.

More information and details regarding the swimming program will be communicated throughout Term 3.

Rubbish Free Lunches

Next term we will be asking families to make a commitment to having a rubbish-free lunch at least once a week. We are hoping that each Wednesday will be a Rubbish-Free lunch day. Children will be encouraged to have their snacks and lunches brought to school in  reusable containers. Less lunch wraps will mean less waste to landfill. More information will follow next term.

Digital Technologies & Cyber Safety

Today all students participated in a Cyber Safety session as part of our Digital Technologies program. If you would like to learn more about these sessions and view photos from our previous sessions, feel free to follow @cohrgtorrisi on Twitter.
