Message from the Principal Team

Welcome Back!
We have had a fantastic start back to school, with all our students and staff energised and ready for Term 3. We have had an eventful week with the continuation of building works that commenced over the holidays, Year 5/6 students attending Polly Woodside for an excursion today and exciting NAIDOC Week Celebrations tomorrow.
Building Works Over the Holidays
In 2021, during one of the many lockdowns, a small working party of parents and staff completed an application for an Inclusive Schools Grant. In December 2021, we received notification that the Minister for Education (James Merlino at the time) had approved funding of $165,150 for an upgrade to our indoor learning spaces, including acoustic treatments. Over the school holidays acoustic treatment was finally installed in our Year 5/6 classrooms, Performing Arts room and our Science Kitchen. There is some leftover material and the architects are currently drawing up scope to use this material in the hallways adjacent to the Year 5/6 classes. This treatment has improved the acoustics in these classrooms, in particular the Performing Arts room and the Science Kitchen.
Over the school holidays another project commenced, to ensure that our school buildings are more accessible for students, staff and community members with physical disabilities or mobility issues including prams. These works have included ramp access to the main entrance on the northern side of the Karawun building and ramp access to the hallway leading to the Science Kitchen, Performing Arts room and 5/6 classrooms. The works will also include replacing the doors on the western side of the Marnerlong building. We were fortunate to have these works funded through the Accessible Buildings Fund through the Department of Education.
Staff Professional Learning - Curriculum Day
On Monday our staff continued the work on improving our teaching of Numeracy across the school. Our Learning Specialist, Maddi Davis, facilitated the day and our staff analysed our NAPLAN data for Numeracy and examined the Numeracy Progressions to ensure that we have a consistent schoolwide scope and sequence for Numeracy.
