Principal News

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 3.  I hope that you all enjoyed a well deserved break and you are now looking forward to an exciting term 3.

This week you will notice that our fortnightly school newsletter looks a little different.  As a staff group we have decided that it is time to review the way we communicate with you all and to streamline our newsletter.

As such we have commenced making some changes.  The first step you will notice is that our school newsletter now aligns with our school improvement framework.  Within this framework there are 5 Spheres.  Each sphere is broken down further.

Our next step is to invite parent consultation in reviewing our school newsletter.  Yesterday all have received an Operoo with an attached St James newsletter Google form.  Can we kindly ask that you complete this form at your earliest convenience.

 The Feast of St James

On Tuesday 25th of July, the school will celebrate  the  Feast Day of St James, our school patron saint with a school liturgy at 2.45pm in the School Hall.  Families are welcome to attend.  There will be some additional activities planned for the students to participate in as well as a free Sausage Sizzle and Zoopa Doopas for the students.

As a school we are in the process of writing a St James school prayer.  Once this prayer has been written we will publish and share it with the entire school community.

In the absence of a school prayer I would like to share the following prayer with you. It is a prayer dedicated to pilgrims who walk the Camino de Santiago - The St James way.

The Camino Prayer

May the love of St James surround you,

 May the strength of St James uphold you;

For the way of St James can change you.

When you walk, may you walk in prayer;

When you rest, may you rest in hope,

That when you return, You may be transformed.

Amen

Personal reflection:  How do the words in this prayer resonate with your experience at St James.  How are you transformed by being part of the St James School Community.

Vinnies CEO Sleepout / Fundraising Sausage Sizzle / PJ Day

Thank you for all your generous contributions and support shown as I participated in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

It was a humbling experience to participate in the experience and do my part in raising homelessness.  On the night we heard from members of the community who have experienced homelessness and how Vinnies have been able to assist them in.

Attached you will find a group photo of the MACS team represented at this year's Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

School Musical

We are pleased to announce that Leisa Giannopoulos has been appointed as the Performing

Arts Director for the school musical - Seussical the Musical.

Leisa is passionate about teaching and performance and over the past 22 years has actively been involved in theatre productions.  She will be coming in weekly to rehearse with the students.  There is plenty to do to get this musical off the ground, so if any parents are interested in costuming or assisting in some way with the show, please email Leisa at lgiannopoulos@stjamesbrighton.catholic.edu.au

St James School Vision and School Priorities (Post Review)

Last year the school participated in our school review.  Following the review we received a report including recommendations for forward planning.  We have met as a Leadership team and in consultation with staff and MACS consultants have set our new school priorities for continuous improvement for the next four years.  (Please see the attached information).

Prep 2024 Enroments Closing Soon

Deputy Principal News

Hello everyone, another very exciting term is upon us with so much to look forward to.

Please see below information on how to add key dates to your calendar from the St James Parent Calendar. There are two options for this.

One is to subscribe to the St James Parent calendar, this will sync the entire calendar to your phone. The other is to add events from the calendar directly to your own calendar. This allows you to pick and choose which events are relevant to you. Please see the steps in the images below.

Subscribing to the St James Calendar

Step One: Open your calendar and click on Calendars in the bottom middle of the screen.

Step Two: Click on Add Calendar in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Step Three: Click on “Add Subscription Calendar”

Step Four: Enter the following URL

https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/stjamesbrighton.catholic.edu.au_tb4g0rlhla3aavgttb1v7outbk%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics

The “Add” button in the top right corner should now allow you to add the calendar to your phone.

Adding relevant events to your calendar

If you would like to just add the key dates that are relevant to your child/children please use the following steps:

Step One: On your iphone please go to the St James website https://www.stjamesbrighton.catholic.edu.au/ then click on the three lines in the top right hand corner.

Step Two: Click on the calendar icon in red.

Step Three: Once you have clicked on the calendar events will appear individually. You can click on the add to calendar button to add each individual event to your calendar.

I hope you found this information helpful in allowing you to keep up to date with events at St James.  Please be aware that new events may be added to the calendar throughout the term and year.
