Need to know

Congratulations to all students in Year 10 for completing your first exam cycle!  The exams ran smoothly, and teachers are busy marking at the moment so results can be included in Semester reports which will be released on the last day of Term 2.

Congratulations also to Unit 3/4 VCE students - the General Achievement Test was completed without a hitch yesterday.   Although this test does not contribute to a student's score per se, it is a vital tool if a student is unable to sit a final external assessment due to illness or other unavoidable circumstances as the result is used to "derive" a score for the exam.    We also use the data from the GAT to inform our teaching and learning program in the senior years.

This week saw our music students perform for packed audiences in the S M Dyet Theatre - so much talent and hard work on show.   Last week's Dance Recital also showed off the amazing work of our dance students and their teacher Stephanie Gardiner.   Well done to all.

Semester 2 commences on Monday - this means changes of electives for students in Years 7-9,  and for some Year 10s.

The commencement of Term 3 also sees some staff going on leave, and others returning.   Stuart Cameron, Rose Elchiekh, Belinda Necovski and Spencer Nelson will all be taking significant periods of leave and I wish them all the best.  We will be welcoming back Ms Kalpanee Liyanage, Ms Melissa Linehan, Mr Marvin Wright and Ms Carla Gangi.

Carla Gangi will be resuming her Leading Teacher: Community Engagement role and I would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate Caitlin Fecondo who has acted in this role for the past twelve months.  I'm sure you will all agree what an invaluable community liasion Caitlin has been.  She has built many community connections and engaged our broader community in a number of events, activities and fundraisers.

I will conclude by wishing  students and families a safe and relaxing June holiday.   Term 2 finishes at 1.05 pm on Friday 23rd June.

New flags

St Helena is very proud to be an inclusive school.  All are welcome and equal here regardless of religion, race, political stance, physicality, ability, gender identity, or sexuality.   Our new flagpoles symbolise this inclusivity and we proudly fly the Australian, Aboriginal, Pride and Torres Strait Islander (we are waiting on this one) flags.    Thank you to Kate Thwaites, Member for Jaga Jaga, for providing the flags.

School Photos

Photos were distributed to Years 7, 8, 10 and 12 this week.   We are waiting on reprints for students in Years 9 and 11 and they will be distributed as soon as we receive them.  Any queries regarding school photographs should be directed to Carol Dixon cdn@sthelena.vic.edu.au
