Only teachers, designated parent helpers and students are allowed access on and across the track. No parents or spectators are allowed in the centre of the track please.
The Athletics Carnival is a compulsory school day and all children are required to attend. The carnival events will start at 8:45am. You will need to arrange transport for your children to the venue. All students will need to report to their classroom teacher when they arrive at the grounds. If your child is late to the event they will need their name first marked off by the office staff member at the gate then their supervising teacher. Any students who do not go home with their parents will catch the bus back to school at the conclusion of the carnival which will be at 2.30pm. This will ensure convenience to all parents, especially those who work. Children can then travel home as they would usually do on a Thursday. If a parent is at the carnival you may take your child home with you, but please let their assigned teacher know and also get their name marked off by the office staff member sitting at the walkway gate.
Rough Order of Events: Our carnival is very busy! Every age group is involved in something all of the time. Please see the rough order of events for the day. This may help you decide when you might be able to pop over to the carnival in your lunch break if you were unable to take the day off work or grandparents may like to know where to look for their grandchild.
Thank you to those parent who have offered to help at this years Athletic Carnival. I have attached the program and highlighted the parent helpers. Please also look to see what teacher will be looking after your child's age group as they won't necessarily be with their classroom teacher.
LUNCH: There will be NO CANTEEN facilities on the day of the carnival. Children have the opportunity to buy a sausage sizzle on the day.
Please bring $2 for a sausage sandwich if you would like to purchase a sausage sandwich for lunch.
The carnival is conducted under P.S.S.A. rules. Ages are determined by the age your child turns this year, up to 31st December. Children aged 8 to 13 have been divided into two divisions (Championship and House) for each event. This allows all children to compete at their level.
DIOCESAN SELECTION: A team will be selected to represent St Edward’s at the Diocesan Athletics Carnival in Tamworth on Friday 18th August 2023, based on performances at our carnival. Three children are selected in Track events and two for Field events. Diocesan 100m events are conducted in age divisions; 200m, 800m and all field events are conducted in three divisions (Open, 11 Years or Junior). Please note: It is possible to be your school age champion and not qualify for selection in the school team.
WWCC NUMBER: This is part of the Government's keeping schools safe. The check is free if you are a volunteer. It only costs if you need it for your work commitments. Please email nmcculloch@arm.catholic.edu.au your WWCC no., as well as your date of birth, if the school doesn't already have it so your information can be verified.
DISCUS: Discus will be held at the Athletics Carnival at 8.00am. Pleaseemail Mrs Gippel if your child is participating in discus and is not on the list below. Names were due to me by the 17th July. nmcculloch@arm.catholic.edu.au
Championship Events:
Please check the Championship Events to see if your child will be participating in these and make them aware of this. These events may be held in a different area of the carnival and the participating students need to be aware if they are in these events. It is also handy to know as a spectator so you know where to look.

A Compass Event was pushed out to all students in Years 3 - 6. The cut-off date for this event was 14th July. Tamworth Basketball has had a high demand in registrations and therefore have had to put restrictions on how many teams can be nominated for each school. Unfortunately some of our students who played last comp have missed out. The teams are currently full awaiting registrations from all parents. If a spot becomes available, I will email you directly to offer a position. This situation is out of my control and I empathise with those who have missed out.
(The year 5 and 6 boys took a vote and decided that they are happy to have 10 a side to ensure that all year 6 boys are able to play their final year at St Edward's).
Any unregistered students or students who have not paid Comp Fees will not be permitted to take the court and may potentially lose their spot in the team due to awaiting players.

The first weekend of the holidays saw some St Edward's students play in the Kim Small Shield. There was a lot of excitement surrounding the carnival. The following students from St Edward's played exceptionally well and demonstrated great skill and sportsmanship: Ellie Palmer, Sienna Erich, Peyton Rust, Oliver Constable, Ashton Jeffrey, Nathan Rex, Martha Ferris and Gabby Hunt.
Gabby and Peyton had a great time away for the under 13's State Championships at the Central Coast.
Gabby's team was moved into 1st division just before it began, so it was a tough few days but the Tamworth team played really well and should be proud of themselves.
Peyton's team came 3rd in 4th division - a fantastic result.
Gabby and Peyton were also both asked to help out teams in the Kim Small Shield. Both girls played incredibly well. Martha played in this tournament representing Tamworth Green.
During the Kim Small Shield, Gabby also became qualified to umpire hockey! Quite an achievement.
Jett O’Hearn and Eadie Hardaker in 1H attended the Kootingal & District Mini Camp during the holidays. They had a fantastic time on their ponies for the three days.
