What’s been happening?
For a couple of weeks at Before and After Care, we worked on a project which we named ‘Tiny Town’. We started by brainstorming what buildings and services a city would need to serve its residents and thought about the optimal layout of a town. The kids had lots of thoughtful suggestions, including having a hospital and supermarket in the middle for easy access, and having a playground nearby to a primary school. Using recycled materials like cardboard boxes, tubes and plastic trays, we then turned all these great ideas into real miniature towns. In the end, two Tiny Towns were made; one regular, and one “Suss Town™” with Among Us characters overtaking the city! Mossy, Haziq, Theo C-L and Tommy T-S made excellent contributions to the project.
Another activity highlight has been making paper spinners. We ended up renaming them ‘hypnotisers’, as staring into the spinning colours almost put us into a trance. We tested them out by asking a partner to stare into the spinning colours; when the spinning stopped, they would turn into a… ‘frog!’, ‘chicken!’, ‘slime monster!’ and so on. Arthur C enjoyed the activity so much that he made about 6 of them!
Being stuck inside during wet weather days can be a challenge, but with our creative OSHC staff and resourceful kids, we’re confident that the fun will continue all through winter!
