Putting Tu and Tu Together

The Ballet Club ensures this week's Leadership Report is on pointe!

Buenas Dias a todos!

For all the student’s hard work this week, Newlands will be providing all students with a break on Monday for all the students to reflect on their great week!

A big thank you to all the families that attended our Open Learning event last week. Nothing encapsulates Newlands better than when families come together to actively participate in their child's learning. There was lots of hugging, high-fiving and laughter during the session. A reminder to families that these happen every single term and can be found on the Newlands Calendar.

The WORKING BEE happened! No rain, all shine and smiles. It was a massive success and we would once again like to thank all the families that gave up their Sundays to move mulch, weed, clean and beautify our school. The Buildings & Grounds committee are forever thankful and are inviting you all to add Sunday the 13th of August to your calendar.

‘What do we Value’ the 2/3 Newlands Primary School premiere event was an incredible success. Not only was the night filled with popcorn and ice cream, the stars of the show were seen around all of the Pentridge Cinemas signing autographs and taking photos. I would like to thank all the families for coming out and celebrating the event, as well as the 2/3 teachers who supported the students through the process of storyboard, script writing, filming and editing. It was a fantastic event and the students from the 2/3s have been buzzing about it all week.

Last night, we had our 2024 Foundation Information Night. We are so lucky to have such a fantastic F/1 team, who talk about our school with such passion and understanding. A reminder to families that have another child or are planning on joining our community in 2024 to submit enrolment forms as soon as possible, please refer to the 'administración' page for important enrolment information. Term 3 transition information will be communicated soon.

Students in the F/1 area are yelling tiki-ta-ta-tiki while using their bodies as instruments, all due to Joel’s engaging music body percussion lessons. I have heard students in the playground articulating the differences between quavers and crotchets while they clap, jump and spin outside. The students have loved attending music this year and it is been fantastic hearing students in the 2/3 area talk about the songs they are creating on MusicLab.

In between the hype and excitement of the Newlands Pentridge evening, the students have been preparing to create dioramas of their ethical Zoo park. The students have been creating their designs and have been considering the needs of the animals to live a happy life, the vegetation, the land and the other animals they will live with. The students have enjoyed working in groups as they get ready for the next phase of their projects.

The 4/6s are creating Video advertisements for Sustainable Phones. They are practicing their reasons and arguments for the phones in an authentic way, ensuring they don’t come across as a Demtel commercial. The students have almost completed their scripts, we look forward to seeing their advertisements in the coming weeks.

Values Day/Parent Teacher Interviews

Parents are now able to book in an interview time for the end of semester reporting period. While families have a choice of two days, to coincide with Monday June 19th Interviews, the students will be involved in a multi-age (p-2, 3-6)  house event. To celebrate this term’s cultural week, will focus on the Argentinian Murga – students will be involved in one-hour rotations including cooking, crafts, sports, dancing and traditional story telling. Please note: Interviews may not be in your child’s room, a map with information will be sent out via SENTRAL on Monday. If you need help with booking a time for an interview with your child’s teacher, please contact the office.

We hope you have a fantastic long weekend and we will see you on Tuesday!

Thanks, Luke
